Over the next few years, we are exploring what is one of the more significant and historic sites in our region - the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, which is just over four miles southwest of Pence. Planted in 1971 by Richard Sanford and Michael Benedict, this was the first Pinot Noir site in Santa Barbara County and it is widely considered today as a 'California Grand Cru'. This wine represents our own quest to better understand the mysteries of this unforgiving and unquestionably profound grape. We received less than 1 acre of fruit and fermented the wine exclusively in concrete. 20% new French oak with 16 months elevage. 100% de-stemmed.
